MSN Money published a Marketwatch article titled “States that keep a Lid on Car Insurance”
Saith the wise people of Marketwatch:
” California … New Jersey, Hawaii, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania also have served drivers well by keeping insurance rates relatively low, but drivers in other states have watched their costs skyrocket 100% or more between 1989 and […]

Marketwatch can’t add or smokes crack, I can’t decide.
Avoid filing claims that hurt you
Good article today on MSN about claims that boost your insurance rates.
I would agree the two homeowner claims that get the most attention from an insurance company are:
Dog bites
Water damage
I would add number three: Fire claims.
With all issues, insurers are trying to anticipate future problems. Did you address what caused the claim to begin […]

Happy Birthday.. Auto Insurance
Let me put on my party hat and do my best Cliff Clavin voice..
Auto insurance is celebrating it’s 110th birthday. The first policy was sold in 1898 by Traveler’s Insurance to Dr. Truman Martin of Buffalo, N.Y.
Dr. Martin paid $12.95 for a year.
The policy gave Dr. Martin $5,000 in liability coverage - Comp, collision, towing, loss-of-use, Med […]
Auto insurance like health insurance, Why not?
I’ve been following (and commenting) on Lazy Man’s latest stab at solving the health insurance issue. This is a topical discussion with all the presidential candidates discussing Universal Health Coverage (the who’s going to pay for it discussion? not so much). In the comments section, people keep going on about how health insurance should be […]
Progressive to sell auto insurance in Mass.
Progressive Insurance said it plans to begin selling personal auto insurance in Massachusetts starting May 1 if state regulators approve the company’s rate filings. Progressive already sells commercial policies in Massachusetts.
Currently, Progressive sells personal auto policies (PAP) in every state except Mass.
Policies will be available first from the Web then through independent agents.
I wish Progressive luck. Hopefully […]
State Farm sued for Sham medical reports
Eric Turkewitz on his blog http://www.newyorkpersonalinjuryattorneyblog.com/
is reporting that State Farm, is being sued in the Eastern District of New York, under the Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organization Act (RICO) by influencing outside examiners.
The long and short of it: State Farm is accused of using Independent Medical Exam (IME) companies that are, let’s say, cooperative with State Farm in their write-ups […]
Choosing a Cost-effective deductible
Physical damage coverage for auto insurance is broken down into two parts:
Collision coverage: Paying for damage to a vehicle caused by hitting another object (tree, curb, vehicle) regardless of fault
Comprehensive (AKA Other than Collision): Covers most other accidental damage to the vehicle: vandalism, theft, fire, hitting animals (people are considered animals), glass, wind, hail, falling […]
Commercial Vehicle Insurance — Why is it needed?
Let’s begin with the “why”. In general, personal auto policies (PAP) are easy to obtain and offer wide coverage to people and their vehicles. In some cases a PAP is not available due to usage, vehicle type or owner of the vehicle requiring an owner to purchase a commercial policy.
Commercial use is unacceptable or excluded […]
