To Sell or Not to Sell?

January would be the three year anniversary of me moving from insurance sales to insurance company back office work as a technology consultant.

Well after several years of steady employment in consulting, I’m looking at a month or two of unemployment; at least I’m thinking I’ll be back to work after Jan 1st with the start of a new quarter.

News of my between assignment-ness has spread and I heard from a friend of mine who owns an independent insurance agency with two offices.  Turns out he’s looking for an agent to develop new business in the small town I live in. We talked, I spoke with his office staff and we’re discussing compensation, commission splits and long term ‘equity’ issues.

More tomorrow.

Interesting to hear you say this. I’ve been thinking about the inescapable conflict of interest when salespeople give advice. But we still need ‘em. Someone can be personally trustworthy and professionally compromised at the same time, but it’s hard to walk that line. Maybe if you do go back to sales, the Yak will have more fodder. Please don’t give this up.

Hey Aaron, how you been? Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, in selling personnel lines P&C it’s difficult to sell like a crazy man and keep your eyes on quality business and being honest with your customers.
